First opened in 1986 as a bird park, new animals have progressively been added on to these 23 acres of land and now has over 200 species of amphibians, reptiles, fish, mammals, invertebrates and birds.

In 2014, the Penguin Pool attracted media attention when 2 male penguins, who had pair bonded years before, successfully hatched and reared an abandoned egg and became its surrogate.
