At the Hythe Imperial, we recognise the importance of protecting our environment and are committed to operating in a way that reduces our ecological impact. Our dedication to sustainability is demonstrated through continuous improvements across all aspects of our business. We are proud to have been awarded a bronze ECOsmart certification, which reflects our efforts to meet recognised environmental standards.

Our sustainability journey is ongoing, and we are committed to improving our practices to ensure we do our part for the planet. Through the ECOsmart certification, the Hythe Imperial remains dedicated to creating a positive impact both locally and globally.

Energy Efficiency

    • We actively monitor and reduce energy consumption by using energy-efficient lighting, appliances, and smart systems to minimise waste, e.g., PIR lighting in all corridors. Our exterior lighting and chandelier are on timers.
    • Our team and guests are encouraged to prioritise energy conservation throughout our operations. For example, all our bedrooms have card activated electricity and each room has its own thermostatically controlled air conditioning system. We also only issue one card to guest unless otherwise requested so that the lights and AC can not be left on when not in the room.
    • Energy costs and usage is constantly monitored by our accounts team. We had new energy efficient boilers installed in 2024.

Water Conservation

    • We implement water-saving technologies and processes to ensure efficient use of water resources. For example, dual flush systems on the majority of hotel toilets.
    • Guests are encouraged to participate in our linen and towel reuse programme to help reduce water usage with signage in rooms and the option at check in on whether to have their room cleaned or not.
    • Working with Johnsons Stalbridge Laundry who have advanced water recycling procedures in place.
    • We have our own well on site. This is used to fill the large ponds at our hotel entrance and to irrigate the hotel gardens and Golf Course.

Waste Management

    • We aim to reduce, reuse, and recycle as much as possible. We work with local waste management partners Biffa to ensure our recycling practices are efficient and impactful.
    • Our property strives to minimise food waste. We have strict monitoring records in place for this and recycle food and used oil waste.

Sustainable Procurement

    • We prioritise working with suppliers who share our commitment to sustainability. Whenever possible, we source locally to reduce the carbon footprint of our products, for example Butcher of Brogadale and Aldington Fine Foods.
    • ECOsmart principles guide our procurement choices, from food and beverages to cleaning supplies.
    • BioVate Hygienics products are used for cleaning in all areas. This is a leading manufacturer in eco-friendly & sustainable biological cleaning products.

Community Engagement

    • We support local communities by participating in community charities such as the Kent and Sussex Air Ambulance ad AquAid.
    • Once a year we hold a local coffee morning for Macmillan cancer and over the last two years we have raised over £2.5k
    • Our sustainability efforts extend to our guests, whom we encourage to adopt eco-friendly habits during their stay.

Carbon Footprint Reduction

    • We are partnered with Yu Energy allowing us to regularly assess our carbon emissions through their Energy Audit and Healthcheck Tool. We seek opportunities to minimise them through energy-efficient operations.
    • Our partnership with the Greengage ECOsmart programme helps us identify new ways to reduce our environmental impact.

ECOsmart Certification

We are honoured to have been awarded a Bronze ECOsmart accreditation certified by Greengage, a recognition that assures our guests and clients of our high sustainability standards. ECOsmart certification means that our Hotel is meeting stringent criteria, including energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, and responsible sourcing.
